Our History

It all began in 1925, when Tito Tamponi started his winemaking business in Calangianus, in the heart of Gallura. He was a true pioneer: the first in Sardinia and among the first in Italy to use the Classic Method. He chose Moscato as a base, a grape with small berries and an intense aroma, grown in the countryside of the Tempio Pausania area.

However, the fragility of the vine and its predisposition to disease made it increasingly difficult to find suitable grapes. Tito was therefore forced to abandon Moscato and turn to a less delicate local vine: “Ritaddatu”, a white grape variety grown in the vineyards of Luras.

Over time, however, Ritaddatu also gave way to Vermentino, which was increasingly widespread in Sardinia. Thus, out of necessity, Tito began to vinify this new variety, initiating a new phase of production.

The baton then passed to his sons, Franco and Plinio Tamponi, who continued their father's work with passion and dedication. In addition to the Metodo Classico sparkling wine, they began producing a still Vermentino, which they called Kùstera : an elegant wine, with a balanced palate, with notes of ripe fruit and citrus.

To offer an alternative with a different personality, Janus was also born, a still Vermentino characterised by a light maceration, which gives it a fruitier and more amiable profile.

Today, almost a century later, we celebrate our origins by bringing Tito's dream back to life: a Moscato Metodo Classico that pays homage to the founder and his vision. It is called Ziu Tittu , a tribute to the person who started it all.
